School board meeting recap · West Valley School District · November 6, 2026, 11:58 PM
The West Valley school board approved the district’s 2026-27 Career and Technical Education program by a 5-0 vote on Sept. 8, 2026, according to the district’s signed meeting minutes. A presentation outlined career-connected learning for grades 7-12 and planned improvements at secondary schools.
The board also voted 5-0 on each of several other actions: school-owned vehicle use, Jump Start Credit, travel requests and approval of the Aug. 25 meeting minutes. The record does not provide spending amounts or detailed terms for the vehicle-use and credit approvals. The minutes approval applied to Aug. 25, not the Sept. 8 meeting summarized here.
Search consultants discussed plans to gather community input before advertising the superintendent opening in November. The timeline presented called for candidate screening and interviews in January, an anticipated selection by that month’s end and anticipated contract approval in February. These were plans discussed at the meeting, not a hiring decision.
Superintendent Peter Finch reported that the Innovation Center was the only Washington school selected as a demonstration site for the 2026-27 Mastery-Based Learning project. He also described security staff duties, including exterior-door checks and photographic reports that notify administrators and facilities staff of concerns.
The board entered an executive session at 9 p.m. to discuss current or potential litigation with legal counsel and returned to regular session at 9:36 p.m. The minutes record no action afterward.
