West Valley’s Oct. 13 board minutes document public concerns about high school safety, a completed $1.08 million water-pipe project and a grant for elementary STEM education.

School board meeting recap · West Valley School District · November 6, 2026, 11:58 PM

Students, parents and staff raised concerns about high school safety and requested better communication and administrative support at West Valley’s Oct. 13, 2026, board meeting, according to the district’s signed minutes. Students also submitted a letter outlining their concerns. The minutes do not document a board action addressing those concerns.

Superintendent Peter Finch reported that junior high water-pipe replacement finished on schedule at $1,084,605, below its $1.2 million budget. The Capital Projects Fund paid for the work. He also announced a $14,500 grant from GESA Credit Union and the GESA Community Foundation to purchase three 3D printers and supplies for each district elementary school.

A Summitview Elementary presentation described student participation in a fused-glass mural supported by state Art in Public Places funding. Every student submitted artwork for consideration, according to the minutes.

The three board members present voted 3-0 to approve the Sept. 22 meeting minutes and, separately, travel requests for professional conferences, JROTC, marching band and girls varsity basketball. Those minutes approvals concerned the earlier meeting, not the Oct. 13 minutes summarized here. The board also held a closed session for a quasi-judicial hearing before adjourning at 8:43 p.m.
